The staff were great, and the cinnamon cocktail I ordered was delicious. I’d come back for the atmosphere and drinks, but sadly not for the food. We had a family meal here on Christmas Eve, our first time eating out on that night, and it was a bit disappointing. The starters tasted odd. My mum thought her soup had been microwaved because some parts were cold and others hot. The Camembert was really unpleasant, without the right taste or texture, and its bread seemed stale. For my main, I had Sea Bream. It was piping hot and nice, though not crispy, and the mushrooms alongside it were so salty I couldn’t eat them with the fish. My family had the Mushroom Bourgin, which I found nearly inedible: hardly any flavour and a strange mushroom texture. The mushrooms with my own meal were fine. They also ordered sticky toffee pudding, which seemed microwaved too and had an odd taste. The bill was roughly £160 for three people. That isn’t unreasonable for Christmas Eve, but we didn’t feel the meal was worth the money.

We were in Warwick for a friend’s wedding and stayed for a weekend. The Inn is right in the town centre, so getting to the venues we needed was easy. The rooms aren’t luxurious, but they’re a good size, with comfortable beds and ensuite bathrooms, plenty for a weekend visit. We also had a group meal in a lovely private room, crackers included, and everyone enjoyed the food. It was well beyond ordinary pub grub.

The wait was a little long, but the fish and chips made it worthwhile. The Battered Haddock & Chips was better than what we usually get from dedicated fish and chip shops: crisp batter, piping hot, with fish that was firm but tender inside. The freshly fried chips were so crisp we couldn’t stop eating. The Satay Chicken Wings are well worth trying too, with a fragrant, rich sauce full of peanut flavour. My husband thought the Steak Burger patty was a bit dry, though he liked the sauce. I didn’t try it, so can’t say more about it.

We had 17 people together in the private woodshed room between Christmas and New Year, and the staff looked after us amazingly well. Everyone’s food arrived together, piping hot and delicious. They handled the large group really well, and every dish was cooked nicely. We’ll definitely be back soon.

The bathroom was clean and brightly lit, but the bedroom had poor lighting and the chairs needed a deep fabric clean. The only usable socket was loose and hanging off, and there wasn’t one by a mirror, so my wife couldn’t do her hair. We were woken quite early because our room was above the kitchen. We told the staff as we were leaving. They apologised and offered a free breakfast, which we declined. I’m guessing things are better now.
