Rising Sun Inn

We tried Sunday lunch with six of us for the first time yesterday. The roast was delicious and well worth the price, and I think we all ended up in food comas afterwards! On our handful of weekday lunch visits this year, when seeing family nearby, the meals have always been tasty too. It’s usually quiet then, and the young waitresses are friendly. Looking forward to the next visit.

We’ve eaten regularly at the Rising Sun, especially on Sundays, but our unplanned lunch today was awful. The service and food were both absolutely terrible. I wish I could call it a one-off, but our previous meal a few weeks ago was very poor as well. This used to be a great place. I hope things get better, though I’m not holding my breath.

The bed was very comfortable, and the double room was clean and well set up. There were a couple of cobwebs high up, but I’m being picky. The bath had no plug, though staff fixed that quickly. We’d come after a long bike ride, hoping to get out of the city and do some walking. We were too late for dinner, but enjoyed breakfast. It was a little pricey, as you’d expect in this sort of location. The chef came in at 10am, but we could have breakfast earlier, and nobody pressured us to check out. The woman serving us was so friendly and accommodating. The pub has a nice atmosphere and seems like a good local meeting place. It’s very dog friendly. We had an enjoyable stay at a reasonable price, and I’d definitely recommend it. The pub’s back patio looks a little neglected, which is a shame because it could be a lovely outdoor space with plenty of plants, and a real asset to an already lovely pub. I hope they get to it at some point. Thank you.

The tempura prawns were a big disappointment. The staff were charming and the service was good, though the choices were rather limited.
