The Fat Fox Inn

From the quiet, comfortable, fresh room to breakfast included with the room service, we loved staying here. It’s a small family-owned hotel and restaurant, about half an hour from Oxford, and a great place to experience an authentic English way of life. The staff were friendly, with none of that corporate, money-making feel, just genuine friendliness. The food was so fresh and delicious, from the appetizers and main dish to a heavenly, light strawberry dessert. Lots of love from Nazar and Natalia ❤️

We spent a rainy November weekend here on a mini walking holiday, and the Fat Fox staff took such good care of us. The deluxe bedroom had wooden beams and possibly the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. There was an open fire and a fantastic menu, just what we wanted for the weather. Dinner came with excellent wine, and the Guinness was a great pint too. Abby, Milo and the rest of the team were always friendly. We had a great escape from the world despite the rain, thanks so much!

We only found this gem because we were looking for somewhere open for breakfast. We all had a scrumptious meal, met the lovely new owners, and got to meet their adorable dog too. The service was amazing and the surroundings idyllic. Since we live nearby, we know where we’ll be coming for a hearty breakfast. 10/10.

The service from Santana really made our birthday dinner special. She greeted us warmly, wished us happy birthday because it was noted on the booking, and kept the conversation friendly and fun. The rest of the staff were brilliant too. We were shown to a nicely set table, ordered a perfect pint of Brakespears and a glass of wine, then had time to look over a wide-ranging menu. I found it hard to choose. They’d run out of the halumi fries, but I didn’t mind with so many other starters available. I had the Mac and cheese bites, little battered balls with tasty melted cheese and a delicious dip. My wife had the chorizo scotch egg, which was clearly freshly homemade, with a runny yolk and perfectly cooked meat. For mains, I chose the Watlington steak burger and she had the chicken breast. I often order burgers when we eat out, and this was one of my top three. The fresh, clearly locally sourced meat was perfectly cooked, juicy without soaking the bottom bun, and topped with diced salad and Oxford blue cheese. My wife loved the crispy bacon added to her perfectly cooked chicken. We went out for a birthday dinner and had a phenomenal experience. It was worth every penny, and we’ll certainly return.
