It’s a lovely pub with an interesting history and a good selection of beer at fair prices. But the young woman who served us was unfriendly from the start and acted as if she couldn’t care less. Then she rudely pulled the card reader from its cradle and shoved it across the bar at us. We left without staying and won’t return unless management can assure us the staff will be trained properly. Such a shame to have a fine place represented so badly by someone who came across as entitled.

We spent a Monday night in a twin room above the pub, which was quiet. The room was clean, fairly spacious and comfortable, with the usual amenities, and the price was very reasonable. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location makes it easy to get around. I’d definitely stay again.

We had chicken and vegetarian curries for lunch, and both were lovely. Good beer, dogs are welcome in the bar, and the staff are friendly.

Poppy looked after us brilliantly, cheerful and chatty, and really helpful. We’d popped in for a drink while visiting Wells, then stayed for lunch. The food was lovely, and there was a great gluten-free choice. My wife was especially pleased to finally have fish and chips. I’d definitely recommend stopping by The City Arms.
