Best Western Welwyn Garden City Homestead Court Hotel

Our suite was in a building beside the hotel, with a kitchenette and a quiet outlook over a park. It was very good value, and there was plenty of parking. We booked just the room for three nights, without breakfast, and used a decent pub nearby instead of the hotel facilities. We didn’t see any other guests.

The room was lovely, comfortable and quiet, and breakfast was cooked to order. Arriving was easy, and the front desk kindly helped us change the booking. Brilliant, no complaints.

The staff were rude and aggressive. I wouldn’t recommend booking this hotel to anyone.

The hotel itself was clean, with pretty gardens, pleasant outdoor areas and clean toilets. But the bar made the evening really disappointing. Service was slow, and the staff serving came across as grumpy, uninterested and rude. The older man kept checking the clock, and when a customer asked what rums they had, the younger one said he was serving someone else. The customer explained they weren’t trying to jump the queue, just asking, and he only shrugged. There were piles of dirty glasses at the start of the night, and the small bar area was generally dirty. The two beers, “south coast” and “66”, tasted the same to me, sour and strongly citrusy, which I found unpleasant. Guinness came in cans and was poured onto a vibrating plate. Drinks were generally overpriced. One guest was shocked that a medium round of five tequilas cost over £50. Several people went to the off licence across the road because it was cheaper and quicker. I’m unlikely to recommend the place or return.
