The White Hart, South Harting

It’s a cosy, welcoming pub with a lovely style, pleasant staff and a dog-friendly feel. The kids’ meals were okay for the price, but the regular food felt like Harvester standard, with very small portions for what we paid. Nothing was actually wrong with it, but I felt rather ripped off and thought it cost about twice what it was worth. Maybe the venue has significant overheads, but that’s the only reason I can think of for such standard food being priced so highly. I’d go for a drink after a dog walk rather than a meal.

Friendly staff, veggie options and a water bowl for dogs made this a welcoming stop. It’s a beautiful proper country pub, with a fire, cosy places to sit and some lovely food. Some dishes felt expensive, though that may just be my opinion. I’d definitely visit again if I’m in the area.

We stopped for lunch on the way to Uppark (NT property) and had a friendly welcome. The celeriac soup was delicious, and the camembert was good to share with some quality ale. It’s a characterful country pub, and there look to be some nice walks nearby. I’ll definitely come back.

The chickpea and beetroot burger was the best vegetarian pub burger we’ve had. We’re fussy eaters, with a vegetarian and some intolerances in the group, and the guy serving us was kind, friendly and really supportive. He noted things on our order to help make sure it was all okay. The food was great, and the place felt cosy and welcoming, with a lovely fire and decor. The town was beautiful too. We only noticed the garden’s beautiful view after we’d left. We didn’t stay overnight, but it seems like a lovely part of the country to stay in.
