Aberdeen (Westhill)

I could walk to work from here, so the location worked well, and I’m counting the Shepherds Rest team next door, where breakfast is served, as part of the service. They were good. The room itself made for a rough stay: it was 13 degC when I arrived, with the window open and heating off, and the electric heating kept switching itself off. The oil-filled radiator I was offered was hard to control. I never got the WiFi in my room working despite trying several times, although I was told the engineers had checked it. The electrics felt outdated, with no USB chargers or sockets by the bed. There was also a lot of road noise and bright lights shining into my window. I didn’t sleep well either night and probably wouldn’t return.

We found crumbs between the bed sheets when we arrived. When we asked about changing rooms, staff offered only fresh sheets. There were hairs beside the toilet and sink too, so the cleaning seemed very superficial. The hotel looks tired, with moss on the roof. The pub food was expensive and bad, and breakfast was quite poor compared with other Premier inn stays around the country. We definitely won’t be coming back.

The room was spacious and the bed comfortable, but it got far too hot and the ventilation was poor. The toilet didn’t flush properly, though the shower was great. I also thought breakfast cost much too much for the choice on offer.

The restaurant next door was absolutely top notch. No complaints about the food or staff there, and I couldn’t fault the hotel reception team either, though they couldn’t fix the problems. I stayed for three nights at the end of May 2025, and got only about 10 hours of sleep across them, which was rough with three days of training courses. It was 17 degrees during the day, so I left the windows open and the heating off, but the room stayed above 24 degrees all night. With seagulls making noise outside, I had to shut the windows to get anything like sleep. My car also needed washing every day because of seagull droppings. I won’t stay here again and would strongly advise others against it. If you want a good meal and service, use the restaurant and stay somewhere else. Poor show, PREMIER INN.
