Alexandra Hotel

We chose the Alexandra Hotel for a show at the Pavilion theatre and were really pleased with it. The seafront setting and easy walk to the Pavilion were ideal. We got a warm welcome on arrival, and the staff stayed friendly, polite and courteous throughout. Our room had everything we needed and was lovely. Thoroughly recommended.

The staff were the highlight for us. They were friendly, welcoming and went out of their way to help. I’d prepaid for breakfast but missed it one morning, and they actually called to offer to keep it available or refund me. I’ve never had a hotel do that before. The location is convenient for the beach, high street shops, cafes and restaurants, and the fort, especially if the summer ferry across the harbour is running. The room was spacious and immaculately clean, with a recently renovated-looking bathroom, a large shower, plenty of hot water and good pressure. We also had bottled water and the usual hotel bits. Onsite parking is available, but there are only a handful of spaces and you have to book ahead. It’s a tight fit, and I wouldn’t suggest taking a big 4x4 like mine, since you could get stuck or block someone in. With a small car it would be great, especially for driving around outside Weymouth. You could ask about dropping bags off first, then moving to free permitted parking. For the weekend price we paid, most things were very good. But broken sleep from noise, light and the bed interrupted what was otherwise a faultless stay. The walls are so thin we could hear distinct words from the next room. On Valentine’s weekend we heard very intimate details in the evening. We didn’t want to put the TV on to cover it, since it was mounted against the other room’s bed wall and we didn’t want to disturb those guests. It may be worth looking into soundproofing. Our top-floor room had blinds but no curtains, so they didn’t block much morning light. The single glazing, I think, also let in sounds from the fairground opposite and the repetitive merry-go-round organ right outside. That may not bother people who wake at a normal time, and perhaps the windows are connected to the building being listed. The mattress gave very little support and was particularly uncomfortable, the one thing we found hard to forgive. That was a shame, since the rest of the room felt comfortable and welcoming.

The staff, especially Grace and Lorna, were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. We’ve just come back from a really relaxing mini break at the Alexandra Hotel. Great room, lovely breakfast and a great location. It was great, and we’ll certainly plan to return. Thank you.

The staff were helpful and made us feel at home, and the location and service were both great. Parking may be tricky when it’s busy.
