The Royal Oak

The broken baby cot meant our son could get out, and the old bunk bed was rusty and wobbly. There were splatter marks all over the bedroom mirror, too. The room was incredibly dirty, with a powerful damp, moldy smell, like a stagnant pond. We later found where it came from: under the bed was a urine stain that had soaked through the whole set when I lifted the mattress. The double bed was partly collapsed at one end, and the old bedding felt wet and heavy. Dust showed clearly when the sun came through the cloudy window. The bathroom was disgusting, with black mold around the top edges of the shower and no toilet seat lid. Thick grime covered the cabinet tops, and dusty dirt was behind the bathroom bin and along the skirting boards. I emailed a complaint with photos. They said the bathroom had been properly cleaned, but when we returned it was in exactly the same state. I would have left immediately if it hadn't been peak season and I hadn't been there with my children. This place should not be letting customers sleep there, as it may be breaking health and safety regulations. Please don't book it.
