The location was great, close to the town centre and a good base for a break away. There was one parking space, but it was very cramped; luckily I have a small car. The property itself was unfortunately not very clean. I had to vacuum and clean on my first night, and there were dirty towels and lots of long hair around. Some light bulbs didn’t work, the clothing rail was broken, and there seemed to be a damp problem with lots of woodlice on the ground floor. The outside area hadn’t been swept either. I wouldn’t use Host & Stay again.

The kitchen equipment was first class, and the showers and bathroom were very good. We had a fantastic holiday in Whitby and the surrounding areas, and the accommodation was first class too. Just be aware there are lots of stairs to reach it, then more because the kitchen and living room are on the top floor, so you need to be quite fit. We couldn’t find BBC or ITV on the TV. Overall, a very nice place to stay.

The kitchen and living area are a good size, and we used that space a lot. It’s also a great spot close to the town centre. The Wi-Fi was terrible, so we couldn’t use it, and the ground floor soap dispenser was rusty, so we had to buy soap. Fix those and it’d be five stars.

The house is modern and nicely furnished, but there are loads of steps, so it wouldn’t suit anyone with mobility issues. I picked it for the location and parking, though the space is very small. It took me five minutes to manoeuvre my estate car into it because access is really difficult.

The light keepers cottage is absolutely beautiful, with so much thought put into the decor. It was spotlessly clean and modern, and I can’t recommend it enough. But it’s not suitable for anyone infirm, there are 36 steps up to it.
