The Angel Hotel Wetherspoon

We'd never stayed at a Wetherspoons hotel before and didn't expect much, so the room was a real surprise. The view of the Abbey and harbour was wonderful, and there was plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The location was brilliant. There's no parking, though the main town car park is just down the road. The windows seemed to let in all the outside noise, whether from people or seagulls, and it was very, very loud.

The pub was busy, but the staff stayed friendly and efficient. We ordered on the app and our food and drinks came quickly. It isn't fine dining, but the food was nice and the drinks deal made it extremely good value. My hubby and I ate here twice during our three-night stay in Whitby. We'll definitely come back on our next visit.

We had views of both the bridge and harbour, plus a lovely brass telescope. The bed was very comfy and the tea tray well stocked. The sink tap was a bit wobbly, though it caused no problems. We skipped breakfast because there was a queue to order and lots of people waiting.

Parking is tricky because the hotel is so well placed for Whitby centre, but the receptionist gave us very good advice about where to leave the car. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was an excellent size, with a comfortable bed, modern furniture, good quality linen and a modern bathroom with nice fluffy towels. It also had an iron, hair dryer, bottled water, tea, coffee and nice bikkies. We ate in for a couple of meals. It was the usual Wetherspoons food, with a good choice and cheap, cheerful prices. Service was excellent: we used the app, and drinks arrived in under five minutes, with food five minutes after that. The restaurant was clean and tidy, and tables were cleared quickly. A very nice hotel and excellent value for money. I've paid a lot more elsewhere and got a lot less.
