The countryside around the hotel was so calming, with woods and sheep-filled fields, and from our first floor room we had a lovely view of the woods. We even saw bunnies twice a day. The food was good and plentiful at both breakfast and dinner. During the heatwave my husband and I wanted to eat outside, and the front of house team brought our food, drinks, and cutlery out to us. The staff were lovely and happy to help with anything. The two women at reception were especially nice. It’s a lovely hotel, but be warned, the showers are very powerful and can’t be turned down, so you’ll need a shower cap.

We used it as a good base for our weekend activities, with clean rooms and plenty of food. There were a few small issues, but reception sorted them out. The restaurant staff made sure everyone had drinks even though the bar was shut for a private event, which was a little disappointing. The BBQ on our first night was lovely, and the staff handled our group of 18 dog owners well.

Steph was particularly helpful beforehand, putting together a better spreadsheet so we could keep track of bookings, and we got a great deal. The staff helped me plan how the weekend for our first big event should work, let us use the hotel grounds, and were accommodating throughout. The BBQ huts on Friday night were fantastic and the food was very good. Rooms were clean, the grounds are beautiful, and it’s a very dog friendly place. Hosting 24 people and about the same number of dogs was quite a feat. Thanks very much, we hope to see you again soon.

The restaurant is worth recommending for its great food and generous portions, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The building was clean overall, too. Still, one evening our three course meal took two hours, and we had to remind staff about the desserts they’d forgotten. The accommodation was a different story. The room was poor, though clean enough, and the bathroom had mould. The mattress was in bad shape, with springs that seemed unable to support even a baby, and the bed made an awful noise with the slightest movement. The bathroom extractor couldn’t be switched off, which made for sleepless nights when you’re used to a quiet room. I’d recommend eating here, but would skip staying over unless it’s a short, budget-conscious trip.

A family stay turned into a really enjoyable evening, with a talented keyboard player in the bar on Tuesday and a fun group there on a trip who got everyone dancing. The food was lovely and the rooms were clean. Staff were very friendly, especially the restaurant manager, and the cleaning team were helpful too.
