Newton Farmhouse

David was so friendly and helpful, and I loved finding bread, jam, milk and butter ready for us when we arrived. We stayed in Owls Barn and really enjoyed it. The apartment is cosy and has everything you need for your stay.

After a long drive and an eventful day, I was glad to spend a quiet, comfortable hour unwinding in the lounge. Breakfast had a superb variety, and we were lent a large road atlas with suggestions for places to visit. We didn’t have time to explore this trip, so perhaps next time. I can’t wait to come back, hopefully in warmer, drier weather to enjoy the grounds at their best, and maybe use the swimming pool too. David welcomed my grandson and me as soon as we arrived and proudly showed us around. The bedroom was cosy and beautifully presented. We loved the breakfast room, the lounge and especially the superb grounds, with hens and four alpacas. Thank you so much, David.

The owners were friendly, helpful and clearly love what they do. Breakfast was superb, with a huge choice and a full English that would be hard to beat. We spent two nights in the Trafalgar room, which was lovely, spacious and quiet. The light, airy conservatory was a perfect spot for breakfast. First class, and thoroughly recommended.

We had a lovely weekend here. The owner was very attentive and left us a rustic malted loaf, milk and jams, which was a really welcome touch. The room has good Wi-Fi and a decent television, and inside the apartment is very comfortable, well insulated and finished to a high standard, so you can forget the world outside. It’s barely off the A road, just outside the New Forest National Park, though the building would be super high-end in a better location. The one-bed apartment has a tiny but well-appointed kitchen nook with everything needed for a weekend, though it’d be too small for a week. The fridge is tiny, but the shower area is luxurious. The bungalow is a 20-minute walk from the rural village of Whitehaven, a tiny village for the affluent, so there are contrasts. There are two main pubs, both popular, with mid-range prices, great service and large portions. We walked there for lunch twice, but opening hours are restricted, so check ahead. The National Park entrance is 10 minutes away, with very narrow lanes in every direction.
