We had a lovely stay in Peel Lodge and would happily come back. It’s clean and comfortable, with beautiful surroundings, and the hot tub was fab. We booked it for a friend’s 50th birthday and posted decorations ahead of time. They had them up and ready when we arrived, and even left her a bottle of prosecco, such a kind touch. The only downside was the showers. They had pressure when cold, but once hot the water was barely more than a trickle.

The park and its surroundings are stunning, with plenty of wildlife and lovely woodland views. The lodge has potential, but after a week at Parmontley Peel Lodge, we felt it fell well short. It looked very tired and needs updating, along with a thorough clean. The kettle was heavily scaled and still had brown, limescale-filled water in it. We bought descaler and cleaned it ourselves so we could use it. The main bathroom, including the taps and shower, was very dirty, and the oven needed cleaning before use. Some light bulbs need replacing, and the blind was missing from the main bathroom window over the bath. The door was difficult to lock, the shower wasn’t very warm or powerful, and a step would have helped getting in and out of the hot tub. We passed our concerns on to the park staff and hope they take them on board. With more care and attention, Parmontley could live up to the setting, which would make this a five star review.

The bed was lovely, clean and comfy, and the place itself is nice. But the lodge feels very dated and hasn’t changed in 13 years. There were holes in the carpets, lots of cobwebs, and draughts from the windows made the curtains blow.

The site is lovely and quiet, with pheasants wandering around and owls calling at night. Bring a torch if you plan to walk around after dark. Peel Lodge is quite spacious, with a separate utility and boot area. It needs a proper deep clean and some maintenance rather than just a quick wipe over. The door was very hard to lock, and a step would have been useful for getting in and out of the hot tub. The shower wasn’t very warm or powerful. There’s a pub or club on site in the main season, while the nearest local is a couple of miles away along country lanes.
