We used the lodge as a base for our Wickerman road trip, looking around nearby filming locations, and the dark skies were a bonus for stargazing. The guest lounge has TV and plenty of indoor games if you want to take it easy. Our Bluebell room was beautifully furnished, the beds were really comfortable, and we all slept well. The owners were so friendly and willing to go out of their way to help. My family and I had a great stay, and I’d happily recommend Castlewigg Lodge.

After a full day on our bikes, being met with coffee and shortbread was much appreciated. Our hosts were so welcoming and helpful, and they even arranged secure bike storage. The accommodation was lovely, with every detail thought through. There was a wide breakfast selection, and they were happy to handle additional dietary requests. I’d highly recommend staying here if you’re cycling locally or riding the SW300.

The location worked really well for exploring the peninsula and further afield. There’s also a regular bus linking the area’s main settlements, so it could make a handy base for the Wigtown Book Festival. Our room was clean and spacious, the bed was comfortable, and they can even give you an early morning alarm call. Anne and Bob made our three-night stay feel like home. They were kind, attentive and flexible, and their local knowledge helped us find walks and places to eat. They even lent us their maps and wellies. We’d recommend them and hope to come back one day. Breakfast was amazing, with so much to choose from. I stayed in the peaceful Primrose room, had a lovely soak in the bath, and got a really good night’s sleep. I’ll definitely stay again.

Anne and Bob are such lovely hosts, and the place is a clean, quiet getaway. Breakfast was brilliant too. Just a really welcoming, down-to-earth stay.
