We came as a group of couples attending events in Wigan, and had dinner for 14 at the hotel. The reception, set in a beautiful Victorian House that retains its features, felt welcoming. Our rooms were spacious and good value, though a little tired. Dinner was far better than we expected, with good sized portions and lovely presentation from Scott the chef. Working with the staff on the menu, room setup and wine was a pleasure. Wendy, the events manager, answered questions quickly, arranged a contract and made the changes we asked for. Nothing was too much trouble. A great experience all round.

Amy on reception took all our wedding details and passed them on, so now we're waiting for a phone call. The building is absolutely beautiful, and the staff were friendly and happy to help with anything. We stayed in room 412, which was fantastic. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Honestly, amazing all round. If you're thinking of booking, don't hesitate, just book.

The price was excellent, the food was good, and the building and grounds are lovely. I arrived very early for work so I could make some calls, and the staff found me a quiet place to work. They couldn't have been more helpful. I'm not sure I can do this place justice, I'd give it six stars. Unfortunately the spa was closed. The only other thing it needs is an EV charger. There was an excellent one about ten minutes away, with several others nearby. It looks like a wonderful wedding and event venue. I'll definitely be back.

The food was pretty decent, even though the menu isn't huge. I had a nice wagyu burger. In the morning you can choose a hot buffet or continental breakfast. The restaurant is huge, while the bar is quite small, and both look nice. The hotel has the feel of a manor house or stately home, and most of the building looks good. I stayed one night for work in the annex, though, and that part needs a refresh. It was much colder than the main building, and the room heating didn't work. The room was clean and tidy, but the bathroom looked straight out of 1980 and needs a refit. My colleague's tidy room had what looked like a blood stain on the sheets. It's not a bad hotel, and I'd probably stay again if work brought me this way. I recently stayed at the nearby Britannia hotel, and Kilhey Court is far better.

The suite in the main building was spacious, clean and full of character. The history and charm of the place made it feel cozy and warm, and I really liked the room. The food was good too: breakfast was basic, but dinner was lovely. Christmas Day was very quiet, which I didn't mind, though it felt a bit boring at times. We stayed three nights over the Christmas holidays and had a mixed experience. There was confusion about my reservation and the package I'd booked, but the staff sorted it out quickly. They were lovely and helpful, although I sometimes waited quite a while for service. There often seemed to be too few staff, and some didn't seem to know what was going on. I heard plenty of complaints from people in the annex, so make sure you get a room in the main building if you visit. The hotel has potential but needs updating, especially downstairs. The carpet is worn and outdated, and doesn't suit a Victorian style building. The lobby is cozy, and I like historic buildings with fireplaces and dark wood, but the decor feels cheap. Marble flooring would suit the building better, and the sofas detract from the space. The dining room could do with an upgrade too. The purple decorations next Christmas didn't really capture the festive spirit. I wouldn't stay here again. The room and food were great, but the furniture and decor need some attention.
