Wigan Oak Hotel

Donna at reception was so friendly and welcoming, and nothing seemed too much trouble for her. She helped make our trip better. We used to stay here before it closed to the public, and came back over the weekend now that it has reopened. The bedrooms have started being refurbished, and everything in ours looked new. The new bed was especially comfortable, though the bathrooms are still the same. It would have been nice to replace those high baths with walk-in showers. The hotel needs a lot more work. It looks worn and outdated, and there was a damp smell on the lower floor near the lift. The lift was very dirty and smelled of mould. The bar is open all day and night, but at the moment it only serves bottles and cans at reasonable prices. The draught drinks were unavailable. We were told more work is planned, so it’ll be interesting to see how things change over the coming years. It would be nice to see the place fully operating again. It used to be a busy hotel with weddings and entertainment.

Our room was great, and the staff were really helpful. Breakfast was great too, and it was good value for money. We walked to our gig and to the museum in town. The hotel is still in the middle of refurbishment.

Jade on reception was especially lovely and made me feel welcome. It’s my first stay here, and I’ll be back. The rooms are lovely, it’s handy for work, and the staff are fab. I’ll recommend the hotel to friends too. Thanks to Jade for looking after me.

The place needs refurbishing. It was very empty until last night, when people shouted along the corridor and kept me awake. They don’t do food either, apart from breakfast.
