Dinner and breakfast were both excellent, and the staff were lovely. Still, the room only felt cosy because it was clean. The bathroom was small, with a big step up, and for two people staying two nights we got just one shower gel, shampoo and body lotion. The wine was pricey too, £13 for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I had one glass, then my husband noticed later that the 10% service charge covered the bar drinks as well, bringing my glass to £14.30. My husband booked this North Yorkshire weekend as a surprise, after reading good reviews and thinking it was worth giving The Plough another try, partly because it’s near Settle for the railway. Our earlier visits in the 90s, when it was family owned, had been much better, especially the generous breakfasts and service. The last time, after it had changed hands, the food fell well short of what we expected and the wine was already expensive. We like the location, but we won’t stay again.

We loved the broccoli and garlic soup, and those Yorkshire puds with the roast were big enough to need their own postcodes! This place is such a beautiful spot, with a roomy beer garden out back that’s perfect for lunch in the sunshine. It’s dog friendly too. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly, and we liked it enough to come back twice while staying at the caravan site next door. Fantastic local pub. LOVED IT!

Plenty of parking, and we’ll definitely come back and recommend it to others. The Sunday roast was possibly the best I’ve ever had, with top quality food and a lovely premises. We went for birthday lunch today despite the dire weather warnings, but the pub staff patiently reassured us by phone that the roads were clear. So glad we went. The service was friendly and attentive.

Wheelchair accessible, and they even arranged smaller portions for the elderly person in our party. The staff were so helpful and kind, even though they were busy. There’s a roaring log fire, and well behaved dogs are welcome. A great range on the menus, with lots of items available gluten free. Everything had great flavour and there was plenty of it. What a find, a pub with a great atmosphere, excellent food and friendly staff. Well done to the whole team.

The staff really made our visit, they couldn’t have done more for us. We met Violet, one of the waitresses, and got chatting straight away because she shares our daughter’s name. She was so warm and friendly, and everyone else was fantastic too. Such a lovely pub with delicious food. Would highly recommend!
