The Horton Inn

The parsnips were amazing, and I can’t figure out what they did to them. The roast was quite literally the best I’ve ever had, with great flavour, generous size and such good value. The staff were lovely too. We ordered the sharing roast hoping there might still be room for pudding. No chance! There wasn’t any room left, and we even took some meat home in a doggy bag. We’ll definitely be going back.

The location worked perfectly for trips to the New Forest, Cranborne Chase, the coast around Purbeck, or north to Shaftesbury. After dinner, we enjoyed finishing our drinks by the open fire in the bar, and all the staff were so friendly and made us feel welcome. We had a truly excellent two-night stay. The room was spacious and comfortable, breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious, and the dinner menu was extensive, with nightly offers as well. The beef burgers are well worth recommending.

If two of you want roast, the roast for two is a good tip: for £35 you get a slice of beef, pork and lamb, plus half a chicken to share and all the trimmings. It saves money compared with two single roasts at around £20 each. We came to the Horton for Sunday lunch and had a great experience. The staff were really friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and I’ll 100% be back.

There can be road noise here, since the inn is at a busy intersection, and they provide complimentary earplugs if you need them. We didn’t need any in January, with our double-glazed windows shut. The rooms were warm and well presented, and the bedding was good quality. We got great value from the winter staycation deal during December and January. The pub food was good quality and used local ingredients, with the homemade ice cream a standout. Had a great two-day stay with my brother, and I’d go back.
