The six-course Burns Supper tasting menu was really well thought out and delicious. I appreciated not having to choose, and the portions were just right, served promptly at the right temperature. I’m counting the enormous ham croquette amuse-bouche as one of the courses! Even with the pub bustling, service was excellent. There was plenty of time to take in the lively atmosphere in this newly refurbished place, and the talented fiddler was a perfect Scottish touch. Looking forward to coming back.

We went to the Westgate for its Burns Supper, with a kilted fiddler playing Scottish folk tunes and a brilliant atmosphere. The meal was phenomenal for the price. The ham hock croquette amuse-bouche was crusty and divine, the Cullen Skink, haddock and leek soup, was delicious, and the venison tartare delectable. Smoked partridge with haggis mousse, neeps and the rest was so tasty, though as a traditionalist I’d have liked the haggis to be more obvious. Dessert was a mouthwatering deconstructed deep-fried mars bar, followed by petit fours and a wee dram of Glenfiddich. Well done to the chefs!

I had a wonderful time here, and the pub staff made me feel so welcome. The room was prepared by Leigh and Sindy, and the kitchen team cooked a brilliant breakfast. Emily served it, and it was the best breakfast in the country. Aiden, if I’ve got the spelling right, is a legend, really capable and a great guy. You’re all fantastic. I’ll stay here again next time I’m in Winchester, and I’ll have food and drinks too. If you’re thinking of coming, don’t hesitate.

The girls and I had a brilliant time celebrating a birthday with drinks. The atmosphere was lively and stylish, and the staff looked after us really well. Service was attentive and friendly, and the drinks arrived with a smile. It felt like a special evening, and we’re already looking forward to coming back.

The Westgate made our wedding day feel easy and special, from the first email right through to the last dance. Ben and the team helped us plan the layout, managed our large and varied group of guests, and kept the whole day and evening running smoothly. They were kind, patient, organised, and always seemed one step ahead. The food was a real highlight. Guests are still talking about the main meal, desserts, and evening boards. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and served at just the right time. The move into the evening reception went seamlessly, including setting up the space for dancing. The venue was gorgeous, with cosy Winchester charm and lots of character. Christmas decorations, soft lighting, and rustic details made it feel like a storybook, and our guests keep mentioning how lovely it looked. It felt intimate and beautifully styled, with photo-worthy corners everywhere. We couldn’t have picked a better place. The Westgate will always be special to us. If you’re considering an event here, you’ll be in good hands. Thank you, Westgate team, for a day we’ll remember forever. Sergio & Sarah
