A lively pub, full of character, with a bit of down-at-heel charm.

The beer garden was a real surprise: it’s a large outdoor area split into three parts, with a decent amount of covered space, greenery and room to spread out. Tucked away on a back street, this hidden gem is well worth a visit. The locals seemed friendly, and they serve Hobgoblin IPA for £6 a pint. From outside, you might take it for a restaurant or wine bar, but inside it’s definitely a pub. There’s a large room with a pool table, booths and tables, plus a screen showing sports.

I had a pleasant visit to this pub on my first trip to Bowness, though I first came here in 1974 and have visited many times since. I don’t remember being here before. On this visit, the pub had one real ale, a good Hobgoblin IPA. The room goes around a central bar, and there’s a pool table and a couple of TVs. There are also at least two cats, Minnie Winnie and Leo. The quiet, secluded beer garden is a big plus and must be great in summer.

There’s a real log fire and a cozy feel at this pub in the heart of Bowness, just a short walk from the lake. A dart board and cheap pool table are available. The bar team are good, and the mix of locals and tourists makes for a nice atmosphere to relax over a drink. It’s one of our favourites when we visit Bowness.

A lovely beer garden out back, plus a cozy traditional pub with a pool table and decent jukebox. A pint of Porreti Carlsberg, a Pinot Grigio and lemonade, and a half lemonade came to just under £19. Nice enough and worth a visit.
