The garden was lovely, though it wasn’t warm enough for us to sit out there. The bathroom was a highlight, especially the shower, and the bed was very comfortable. Nick gave us a warm welcome, and the bottled water, fresh milk and brownies were a lovely touch. Breakfast set us up for the day during our great two-night stay. Thanks, Nick. We’d love to return, perhaps in summer when we can enjoy the garden.

Fairfield House sits at the top of a very steep, narrow road. That won’t be much of an issue if you’re driving, but anyone with mobility issues who doesn’t want to use a car for the short trip into town may prefer somewhere lower down or on a much shorter incline. We stayed in the “Penthouse”, a tidy, well-kept attic conversion with spectacular views of the town and decent views of the lake. The low beams are to be expected in an attic, but at around 6ft I bumped into them during the night. Otherwise, the room was great, with a good shower and solid water pressure, plus a full tea-making set and plenty of decaf options. Complimentary milk, bottled water and baked treats, including malt bread and vanilla pound cake, were kept in a first-floor fridge and replenished at least daily. Nick was friendly and accommodating, offering suggestions for places to visit and things to do, while generally leaving me to myself unless I needed him. Breakfast was complimentary, with several choices. Tea, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice were available by request or for you to take yourself. I stuck with the full English most days and tried smoked salmon with poached eggs one morning. Both were fantastic. We had a great three-night stay in March. The hotel was great, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Windermere.

Nick made for a pleasant weekend, with cookies and cake left outside the rooms every day as a lovely personal touch. The room was absolutely perfect, and the breakfast was the nicest we’ve had at a hotel. It’s an amazing place, and we’ll be back as soon as we can.

The gardens and outdoor seating are fantastic, and the fridge on the landing with fresh milk, water and homemade treats is a great bonus. Breakfast was generous and made with excellent produce. We had a warm welcome, and the rooms were great, with comfortable beds, modern bathrooms and spotless cleanliness. Fabulous place to stay. I really can’t see how they could improve it, and we’ll definitely return.

The garden setting was peaceful, and both the room and breakfast were excellent. The room was spotless and comfortable, and the service felt warm and friendly. I’d happily stay at Fairfield House and Gardens again.
