The host's rules made little sense for what we paid. No food in the room and no visitors allowed. We weren't staying for free, so why pay to be controlled? The host seemed to watch us constantly to see if we'd broken a rule. It felt ridiculous, disrespectful and uncomfortable. The room was old and small, but the host's rudeness and poor service were worse. Breakfast was fine on the first day. On the following two days the toast and sausages were overcooked, almost burnt. This lodge isn't worth the price, and I'd never recommend it unless you want rude treatment, burnt food and to feel watched.

We arrived after a long journey, and the welcoming, approachable woman at the desk kindly let us check in early, which we appreciated. The rooms were acceptable, as expected for a cheap price. The showers were either hot or cold, with no in-between. The hotel's car park is very small, perhaps enough for nine cars, and vehicles may have to block one another in. It's first come, first served, with very limited street parking as the alternative.

Right in the centre of Windermere town, with parking, a lovely restaurant and nicely furnished rooms. Everyone on staff was friendly and welcoming, and I'll happily return. My room was warm and cosy, the bed was comfortable, and there was a TV, fridge and kettle with drinks provided.

The breakfast was included and had a great range of options, including vegetarian choices, which I really appreciated. The staff were very welcoming, and the hotel had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. It's in a handy location, about a five-minute walk from the train station and well connected by bus to the national park. There were a few little drawbacks: the shower was cramped and the water pressure could be better, the bed squeaked a bit, and the duvet felt small. I could also hear traffic from the street at night. These were minor issues for me and didn't spoil the stay. I'd recommend it if you're after somewhere comfortable and well located.

The owner was kind and helpful. We arrived early and could leave our bags, then leave them again after checkout even though our train home wasn't for another seven hours. This is a charming little place to rest after sightseeing, and a good choice for a short stop while visiting the Lake District. Breakfast was just the sort of hearty British meal you'd hope for, and the omelettes were so good.
