The country pub decor is lovely. We stopped for lunch and the food came out quickly, hot and fresh, and tasted great. The staff were so nice and helpful. I'd definitely recommend eating here.

The bed was super comfy, the room spotless, and the food was delicious. We had an amazing roast, and breakfast was just as tasty. One waiter was especially helpful and attentive, and I really appreciated that he was respectful with everyone. I changed my pre-ordered breakfast a little and asked if there'd be an extra charge, but it wasn't a problem and there was no extra cost. Ten out of ten to him and the chef. Our daughter, son-in-law and their fur baby stayed in one of the pods near the pub and hotel, and they loved it. The place is only a ten-minute drive from Windermere and twenty minutes from Kendal. I'd happily return and recommend it to friends and family. Thanks for a lovely stay. There were a couple of letdowns. We didn't get a warm welcome at check-in, and the TV had power but wouldn't switch on. When I went to reception, the staff seemed confused before someone came to fix it. I feel that should have been checked before guests arrived. The Wi-Fi was patchy, and my husband's phone couldn't connect at all. We were in room 7, right by reception and facing the beer garden and seating terrace. The heavy curtains blocked out all the light, but blinds on the doors would be useful so you could enjoy the view and daylight. Quite a few guests walked past and looked in, so unfortunately we kept the curtains closed most of the time.

We took the family out for lunch and had a great time. The atmosphere was really nice, and there was plenty of choice on the menu. The staff were friendly and helpful, made us feel at home straight away and never rushed us. The fish and chips were delicious. Happy to recommend it.

We only had one night, but the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and went out of their way to handle our requests. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. Our room was clean, comfortable and well cared for, with everything we needed. We booked after searching for the best roasts in the Lake District, and the food lived up to it. Both the roast and breakfast were highlights, cooked just right. Even on a short visit, the stay exceeded our expectations. We'd gladly come back and recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Thank you.

We had a King Room with garden view, which looks over a dry stone wall and across the valley. It had a big bed, tiled en-suite, wardrobe and a little desk, and housekeeping was very good. On a warm early evening in April 2026, we sat outside with a couple of Wainwright ales. So peaceful. Breakfast was amazing: cereal, fruit, yoghurt, tea and coffee were laid out, and we had poached eggs with salmon and hollandaise, plus toast and marmalade. So nice to have someone else cook and do the washing up. The Brown Horse Inn is a proper inn with a bar serving good beers, a restaurant with an excellent menu, and accommodation you can book direct or through booking.com. Google Maps says it's a six-minute drive south of Windermere marina.
