The Hideaway at Windermere

Booking direct also gave us the option of daily complimentary cake to enjoy later in the day. We were warmly welcomed and shown to room No5, which was comfortable and immaculate. The hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the area, and the freshly prepared breakfast was a feast of quality food, you certainly won’t leave hungry. All the staff were attentive and made us feel welcome. We’ll definitely return.

The free parking was a real plus, and we could easily walk to both the lake and town from this quiet spot. We had a great stay at Hideaway: the family running it were friendly, the rooms were spotless and comfortable, and there was plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner. Really lovely food.

The boat trip on Lake Windermere was breathtaking, and getting to visit the Lake District after wanting to for over 40 years felt like a dream come true. I first wanted to come here as a teenager, and I briefly stopped in Bowness on Windermere in 1995. At the Hideaway Guest House, we had a lovely stay, with great accommodation, service and breakfast. They went above and beyond, even adding marmalade cake at breakfast. We did lots of walking, enjoyed fresh air, coffee and delicious food, then I was ready for bed by 8:30! ☺️

If peace and quiet are what you want, this adults only 4 star Hotel is a lovely place to stay. Richard is always happy to chat, and takes real pleasure in making breakfast with his team, who rotate jobs. There are leaflets by the shelf to help plan trips, and the staff make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, with homemade cake. Every room has Farrer's tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar and milk, plus white towels, body lotion, gentle body wash and nourishing shampoo. Some rooms have baths, and the shower facilities are excellent. The gardens are beautiful and there’s ample parking. The rooms are all lovely, and you might want to try every one. It's about five minutes to the local shops and the unique crafty bar, with bottled and draught beers from many countries. Lake Windermere is about 1.5 miles down the road, with walks galore, wildlife including swans, trips round the lake, and a superb new ferry. There’s also an awesome ice cream shop near the rowing boat hire, with lots of delicious choices. It’s a great place to relax, and everyone seems focused on making your stay one you’ll remember and want to repeat.
