We’ve stayed here twice in our motorhome, and the car park is roomy and peaceful. Even with the A35 nearby, the buildings block the road noise. It’s a really handy stop, and the pub is lovely inside. On our recent visit, we got there about 20 minutes after Sunday’s last food orders at 7pm. Huge thanks to Angela for setting aside two carvery plates for us. The food was generous and delicious, as always. The sirloin was the best I’ve ever had, cooked just right, and the staff are so friendly. Breakfast the next morning was excellent too. I’d happily recommend it.

We dropped in on a sunny Saturday evening while travelling between Bridport and Weymouth, after a friend suggested this countryside pub. It was quiet, so we got a table without booking. The service was attentive and friendly, and the food really impressed us. I’ve eaten in restaurants around Europe, and I thought the steak here beat the one I had in Florence. We had an 8oz steak with salad, Parmesan, peppercorn sauce and chips, plus a large Buddha bowl with halloumi. Both were excellent. There were two menus: one had specials such as ciabattas with a good range of fillings, and the other offered an unusually varied choice of mains for a pub. There’s smart indoor seating as well as outdoor tables. The car park is behind the pub, reached by turning onto the residential street with the houses with red front doors, then turning again. Well worth stopping for a meal.

The cheeseboard with local cheeses is worth a try, and there’s a good choice of ales too. Angela and the rest of the team were welcoming, and check-in was easy. I parked up easily, had a great evening meal, then came back in the morning for a good breakfast. The dinner was a freshly cooked take on Chicken Kiev. I hadn’t been here in over 25 years, but came back because it’s now a Britstop as well as a BnB. The pub car park can also be used when visiting the Ninestones nearby. Pop in to the Coach House Inn on your way back for some hospitality.

We made an unplanned stop here on the way to a weekend away and were so glad we did. The food was lovely, so we stopped again on the way home. We’ll definitely come back.

The rooms were surprisingly spacious, the food was very nice, and the bar staff were welcoming, especially Megan (Megs). Breakfast doesn’t start until 0900, which isn’t suitable if you’re staying for work. I also had a cold shower, problems with the windows and hot water, and could hear between rooms because the sound insulation is lacking. It’s a decent place with plenty of potential. More attention to maintenance and care would improve the stay. Thanks for having me.
