The staff were lovely and friendly, and this isn’t a reflection on them. But after a long day of driving, it was disappointing to find the restaurant closed both evenings. The first night we were told it was because of staff sickness, and the second that they couldn’t get the staff. We were told we could get a drink at the bar, but it turned out to be just a fridge of bottles. We book hotels like this expecting a meal, a few drinks and then bed. The room was okay, but the mattress was uncomfortable and creaked badly.

The small team seemed stretched thin, running around like headless chickens, but they were friendly and attentive, and served the little food available well. The room was okay, like other Premier inns, but ours was at the far end of the hotel and had no WiFi. That’s a problem in a town without phone signal. This overpriced Premier inn in an overpriced Oxfordshire town had a very limited menu. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have booked a meal deal. I’d rather travel another half hour to Botley, where the Premier Inn is much better. I won’t be back.

Breakfast is open to people who aren’t staying at the hotel, and the toilets were clean. The food was reasonably priced: 10.99 for unlimited breakfast, including hot drinks or juices, and free for children. The cooked choice includes bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns, baked beans, black pudding and mushrooms. You can opt for a continental breakfast instead, with drinks, for around 8.00. There was a good range of pastries, bread, jams and spreads, fresh fruit, fruit salad, yogurt, cereals and berries, plus a coffee machine with a few choices. We arrived early and one lady said we were “lucky” she had a table since we hadn’t booked. We said we had, but she insisted we hadn’t, so I even wondered if we’d come to the wrong place to meet our friends and called them. She found our booking and showed us where to sit. The other staff member explained the layout to her customers, while we were simply told where to go. We didn’t feel welcome, but once the rest of our party arrived, we got on with our reunion.

The few staff on duty were doing their best, and Witney is well placed for exploring the Cotswolds and Oxford. Those were the only positives from our two-night stay in April 2026. It was by far the most expensive Premier Inn I’ve stayed in, yet the room, especially the bathroom, was run down. The towel and shower rails were rusty, paint was flaking on the woodwork, the sealant had big gaps and the shower head was cracked. The bedroom windows were sealed, which felt claustrophobic, and the air conditioning was noisy. Basic maintenance was clearly lacking. When the manager asked about my stay as I left, I told him these things. He said he had a good maintenance man who would put them right. There was no offer of compensation or a refund, despite how disappointed I was after paying so much for two nights. I wish I’d stayed elsewhere.

The rooms are okay by Premier Inn standards, but there weren’t enough staff for the number of guests. Don’t bother with the restaurant. The first night they were out of a lot of the menu, and it took over 1 hour 30 minutes to get a burger. On the second night they wouldn’t let us cancel the meal deal, so we had to put up with another very slow service. There are much better places to eat and drink a 15-minute walk into town.
