Gorse Hill

We stayed one night while our son was passing out at pirbright. The hotel was a brilliant find, with lovely staff who couldn’t have been more helpful and excellent service. Room 59 was clean, modern and lovely, and there were nice smells throughout. The Xmas decorations were on point, and it’s not too far from the big shopping centres. Breakfast was great value for the area. Everyone, from the cleaners to the front of house, was polite, friendly and helpful. Truly worth a visit, and I can’t praise the hotel and staff enough.

Christian has been a highlight of my stay. He’s professional, attentive and welcoming behind the bar, and makes the whole place feel friendly. He mixes drinks perfectly, gives thoughtful recommendations and is happy to chat, while looking after everyone without being overbearing. You can tell he takes pride in his work, and his positive energy and attention to detail lift the experience. I’ve really enjoyed staying here, especially the bar thanks to Christian.

The staff were very good, but we were constantly chased for payment instead of being able to put drinks on the room. The breakfast selection was limited, and it seemed like everything had been cut back to save money. Our small bedroom had no reception phone, fridge, wardrobe shelves or suitcase stand. There were no hooks on the bathroom door or grab rail in the shower. A footpath ran right outside the room, with at least 30 people walking past and looking in.

The room was really quiet, and the doors closed softly. I wouldn’t have known other guests were staying if I hadn’t seen them around. The reception gentleman was very welcoming, and overall it was a pleasant stay. The room was mostly clean, but the carpet badly needed vacuuming, with hair and debris all over it. The room was warm, with the heating on and no thermostat to control it. The windows were locked shut. Only at checkout, when I asked, did I learn that reception has keys to unlock them, so grab a set if you want air circulating. The location is awesome, though reception wasn’t easy to find. I had to drive through a couple of parking areas. My advice is to follow the road until you reach a water fountain. I’d stay again and recommend it.
