A very pleasant town centre pub, warm and welcoming, with a great open fire. It's clean and well run by pleasant people. We hadn't been in for a while, but lately we've been dropping by in the early evening and really enjoying it. The real ales are well kept, though both beers on pump are strong. A medium or lower strength option would be good since we have to drive afterwards, but I just have less.

We booked two rooms and confirmed them, then reconfirmed on the day, when we also gave an approximate check-in time. When we arrived, we were told the rooms had been given to other guests. The only offer was a three-bed room for four people, leaving us stranded 50 miles from home with no other properties available in the area because of the local air show. Absolutely disgraceful!

The locals were horrible, and the barmaid was frosty and hostile, without cracking a smile. We certainly weren't made to feel welcome, though they had no problem taking our money. Maybe this pub doesn't need passing trade. I agree with the poster above. A really horrible experience. If I could give it zero stars, I would. Sadly, steer clear.

At first it seemed like a locals-only pub, but I was wrong. It had a welcoming atmosphere. The old-school place is lovely, and the barmaid was very pretty. She was on her own, multitasking, and served us quickly.

There was a great atmosphere when the landlord offered to have the barman put on some music for my son's 40th birthday. We chose what we wanted, and people in the pub were dancing and singing along. There were six of us staying in the B&B. The bedrooms were clean and tidy, though probably due for an update. Beds were very comfortable and the shower was hot, making it ideal for our one night. Good value for money, and we'd stay again if we're in the area. Lambert and Mahy family
