The location worked for a last-minute booking, and there was plenty of parking. The room, though, was one of the least clean hotels I’ve stayed in. There was no WiFi password or information in the room, and the shower was held up with a cable tie that hadn’t even been trimmed. Its temperature swung from scalding to freezing every ten seconds. There was hair on the tiles, and the sink’s hot tap took about five minutes to warm up. Around the toilet, the floor was stained; the bowl was filthy, with urine around the rim and tissue inside, and whatever was on the lid was revolting. The bedding looked unchanged: there was hair and black staining under the duvet. For £120, it was a really unpleasant stay. I didn’t feel like trying the food after seeing the room. Checkout was unmanned, with keys left in a basket before slipping out the side door. I can see why.

The pies are a must, with plenty of tasty choices on the menu. Mine with chips was the best I’ve had, and the prices were great too. I stayed two nights and, travelling solo, really appreciated how friendly and welcoming the staff were. I’d definitely come back.

I only stopped in for a drink, but this is a brilliant country pub. The staff were friendly and easy to chat with, and the Guinness was a real treat. As someone from Ireland, I don’t say that lightly. Love the place.

The pub and restaurant were lovely spots to sit with a drink or a meal, and it was easy to meet locals and other travellers there. Peter & Janine made us feel so welcome, and Kira, Barbara & Megan, along with the other staff whose names I didn’t catch, added to that feeling. We were spoiled by Janine’s cooking, all those classic pub dishes made from scratch with care. Our room was private and comfortable, with a nice bed and ensuite. It’s right in a pleasant village, with nature and quiet nearby, and makes a good base for exploring Somerset. I stayed for eighteen nights and never changed my mind about the cosy, welcoming feel I got on arrival. Fantastic place, highly recommended, and I’d definitely stay again.

The room looked really pretty, but it was absolutely freezing. I went to bed wearing a jumper, leggings and socks, and the bathroom was so cold it took my breath away. I can’t comment on the service or the pies because the pub is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There was no food available and no way to heat any.
