I picked this hotel because the sample menu I downloaded looked appealing, but when I checked in at the bar at 8 pm, the reception being closed, I was told they wouldn't be serving food until the following week. At least there were several nice pubs within a ten-minute walk. The room was adequate, but dusty, with cobwebs, and the tea and coffee supplies were crammed into a very dusty paper cup of unknown age. The towels were small, which was fine, but there wasn't any hot water for a shower. For fifty quid, I don't think it was money well spent. The nearby Premier Inn cost the same and had basics like china cups and hot shower water. I feel a bit silly for choosing this place.

This place keeps things simple, but the welcome was warm and the room and bathroom were clean. There was plenty of tea and coffee, plus biscuits in the room, which was a nice touch. The toiletries were good quality, and the location is convenient. Check-in is through the pub, which has some amazing features.

The staff were wonderful, friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Breakfast was good, though there wasn't much in the way of cold options, and the coffee was inconsistent. The rooms had been cleaned, but still didn't feel particularly clean. Walls, ceilings, floors, and other surfaces looked tired and needed more than a quick refresh. The rooms were also noisy, with very thin walls. It's a two-star place as advertised, so I suppose that's to be expected.

It's a budget pub, so don't judge it against a five-star hotel. The place feels warm, friendly, and inviting, and the staff go out of their way to help. I've stayed in different rooms, and you can close the curtains. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and stocked with coffee and toiletries.

For the price, I can't complain. The room was small but clean, with two sets of beds, towels, shampoo, and body wash. There was plenty of tea, coffee, and sugar, enough storage, and a TV with loads of Freeview channels. The downside was the creaking whenever someone went up or down the stairs outside. Maybe that's just the age of the building.
