Hollies Hotel

The fir trees gave us shade and privacy, and our three-year-old enjoyed walking all the way around outside. The hotel is quite large and flat, perhaps only two floors, which somehow made it feel peaceful. We stopped here on the way to Cornwall and found what we needed: a warm welcome, a big comfortable room and good food. There’s no AC, and getting a cross-breeze is hard, but a large ceiling fan helps. You can leave the patio doors open just a little to let air in while keeping them secure. We also saw that there’s a conference room. It was a family trip for us, and we’d definitely stay again.

We only came for dinner, not an overnight stay, and were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in. The menu was extensive, with a good choice of vegetarian dishes for me. I had the chestnut squash pie, which was delicious, with lovely pastry. My friend said her pork belly was very good too. I’d recommend it for a meal out.

We stayed two nights and really enjoyed it. The rooms were spacious and very clean, with a comfy sofa and a little terrace table and chairs just outside the full-width patio doors. That made the room feel light and airy. The restaurant food was a good standard with generous portions, and breakfast was very good. My mum uses a wheeler and could get straight to her ground-floor room up a ramp from the car park. Getting across the gravel to the restaurant was trickier. Her room wasn’t specifically offered as disabled access, and some things were difficult for her, like the plug heights and lack of a walk-in shower. She still enjoyed her stay. The staff were fantastically friendly. I’ve stayed in plenty of smart hotels over the years, and I’d absolutely come back here and recommend it.

The rooms were tidy and clean, and much better than I’d expect at this price. After a good night’s sleep, we had a scrumptious breakfast. The staff were welcoming, and the well-priced menu had plenty of variety. The food came out appetising, nicely presented and tasty. Glad we picked the Hollies.
