Northover Manor Hotel

Breakfast was a very nice full English, and they had gluten-free food. We stayed one night while visiting family at the Northover Manor. Our ground-floor double accessible room was spacious and clean, with a large walk-in shower.

The staff and owner didn't seem bothered when we raised our concerns. The room was far too hot, and with the window open, an outside fan kept switching on and off and woke us most of the night. It also wasn't very clean: cobwebs on the wall and ceiling, thick dust on the beams, and stains and burn marks on the carpet. The pillows were very thin. We didn't have a good stay, and I'd have given no stars if I could.

The owner was friendly and quite helpful, and our room was well appointed and up to date. We only needed somewhere at the last minute in June 2024, travelling back from Cornwall to London, and the price was more than reasonable. It's just a few minutes' walk from the village centre. We'd happily stay again, and for more than one night.

The coffee was bitter, and breakfast service felt curt and only formally polite. I waited a long time to be seated. Earlier, nobody showed me where the restaurant or bar was, so after looking around I had to ask. The hotel was clean overall, and my room in the annex, up a flight of stairs, was small but clean and comfortable. With so many five-star reviews, my stay fell a little short.
