The location made it easy to explore: restaurants, cafés and bars were only a couple of minutes away, and the walk into town past the city walls and castle was lovely. Carole knew the area's history well and had useful suggestions for things to see and do. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived, and Wendy looked after us warmly at breakfast, which was fabulous and had plenty of choice. Our room was comfortable too, with lots of thoughtful little touches. We'd happily recommend Avondale Guest House, and we're grateful for a fantastic stay.

We've stayed at Avondale twice now, and this time had the spacious, beautifully decorated Poppy room. The big bed was very comfortable. Carole and Wendy are wonderful hosts with plenty of knowledge about York, and breakfast had a lovely selection of delicious options. We had a fantastic four-night visit and hope to return next year.

Being able to park was a real help, since York's car parks can get crowded and pricey. The guest house is also well placed, under a 15-minute walk from the centre. Our room and en suite were clean and nice, and breakfast was very good, with 8am or 9am sitting times to choose from. I booked after seeing the reviews and was pleased with the stay. I'd book again.

Carole was a friendly landlady, and the room was tidy and clean, with a comfortable bed and a good shower. Breakfast had tasty choices, including fish, which I enjoyed, and the whisky porridge is well worth trying. The B&B is near the city walls, about a ten-minute walk from the Wall and fifteen from Clifford Tower. I'd gladly stay here again when we're back in York.

The poached salmon with egg and toast was beautifully cooked each morning, so booking Avondale Guest House for its breakfast award worked out very well. I felt welcome, and my room was comfortable and clean. It's an easy walk to the walls and from there into the rest of York. If I come back, I know where I'll stay. Thank you!
