The cheap price and great location came with friendly staff, but I wouldn’t stay again. There has to be a limit to what “you get what you pay for” means. The room was terribly dirty: rubbish under the beds, a thick strip of grime where the bathroom floor starts, and a urine smell in the bathroom. There were stains on the bedding, towels and seats, and the floor was so filthy I didn’t want to put anything down. At the very least, they should vacuum the carpet before letting anyone book the room.

The staff were lovely, and the location is excellent, around a 10-minute walk from the town centre. Breakfast was good value. Our standard double, though, was dirty and badly needed redecorating. The paint looked like it dated from the 1990s. There was barely room around the bed, making it an obvious trip hazard, and instead of a wardrobe there was only a short rail under a shelf. The bathroom ventilation wasn’t working properly, and it smelled like a public toilet when we arrived. I doubt we’ll return unless it’s clear the rooms are clean and all the facilities work.

For £37 a night, I knew it was cheap, but that doesn’t excuse an unhygienic room. Ours wasn’t attached to the property, and we were taken out the back door to get to it. It didn’t look like the lovely, clean, up-to-date rooms on the website. There were coffee splashes on the wall, mould in the bathroom, dirty carpets, and just one towel for the two of us. The towel rack was coming off the wall and the TV remote didn’t work. The staff were lovely and welcoming, and brought us another towel and roll when we asked. The gentleman who saw us off was lovely too. I didn’t complain because my partner and I were only there for one night and just used the room to sleep.

The bedding was clean and the staff were friendly enough, though their dress and cleanliness didn’t make it obvious they were staff. The room itself was very run-down and needed repainting and updating. The toilet was broken, the shower cubicle leaked, and the carpets were stained and dirty, with cobwebs around. The garden wall was nice, though I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
