The location of Ye Old Red Lion is great for exploring Yorkshire, and you can also cross Humber Bridge for a trip into Lincolnshire. Thanks to Chris and all the staff for another lovely stay. We had three brilliant nights. The rooms were clean and really comfortable, with everything we needed, and the staff were amazing. Jo’s breakfasts were fabulous and set us up for the day. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays there’s a changing themed night if you’re lucky enough to be there. This time it was pie night, with homemade steak and potato, minced beef and onion, chicken ham and leek, and cheese and onion pies. You could have one or sample them all, then help yourself to homemade chips, creamy mash, peas, carrots, and thick, rich gravy. It was all £8 and we really enjoyed it. It’s popular, so you need to book if you want to go.

We were very happy with our second visit to Ye Olde Red Lion and would gladly go again. It’s about a 25-minute drive to the park and ride for the bus into York. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and both dinner and breakfast were very good. Our room was basic but had what we needed, including tea and coffee, a large TV, a hairdryer, and toiletries in the bathroom.

There’s a lovely koi pond outside with well cared-for fish, plus a nice outdoor seating area. A fish and chip shop is right next door, and the shops are only a short walk away. It’s also a short drive from York, so we’d definitely come back if we plan another trip. It’s a quiet, nice place to stay. The staff and locals were very friendly and liked a chat. Service was spot on: we ordered a full English and it arrived within 15 minutes. There’s also a help-yourself station for coffee, tea, and cereal. It’s very reasonably priced.

We stayed in our motorhome in the car park. Parking there is free, though you’re expected to support the bar, which seems fair and is the least you can do. The staff were excellent, friendly, and very capable. The food was outstanding. The portions were large and homemade, cooked perfectly, and not expensive. The sausage, liver, and onions were superb. Honestly, it was probably the best pub meal I’ve ever had. I can’t praise it enough.

A fab place to stop on the way to the coast or while touring Yorkshire Wolds. There’s a great walk to the old church, and local places include shops, a bakery, hairdresser, bowls, supermarket, and cafe. Friendly staff, accommodation, food, a bar, and outdoor seating too.
