Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel

We had a tasty breakfast, and the staff were helpful throughout. The rooms look a little dated, but had everything we needed, and the bed was comfortable. It was quiet, with plenty of parking, and handy for cycling into and out of York. This was our second stay, and another comfortable one. We also used the voucher from reception to visit Everlast Gym, 2.1 miles away on a trading estate with free parking, for a swim, steam room and sauna. Thanks for a lovely weekend.

Our family and friends who stayed at the hotel mentioned a few things worth knowing for large groups. Room prices varied quite a bit, and about 90% of them had trouble sleeping because of plumbing and pipes, creaky floors, mechanical noise or electrical buzzing overnight. Two guest rooms also smelled strongly of cigarettes. It may be hard to avoid some of that in an older hotel, but it’s worth bearing in mind. The wedding itself was wonderful, and Bethany Burton was a huge part of that. As Events Manager, she knew the industry inside out, suggested local vendors, helped us set expectations and stay on schedule, and kept us updated all the way through. She was great at communicating during planning and on the day, and never made any question feel like too much. Her professionalism and expertise helped make it magical. The food at the wedding and breakfast was excellent too. Thanks to Head Chef Lauren, Beth, and the whole Mercure team.

We were touched that they left a card and chocolates for my partner when I mentioned it was his birthday. The room was very clean and comfortable, with a lovely bed and a separate sitting area. You can see some signs of use in the rooms, but it was still a lovely stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself was beautiful.

The rooms could use a furniture update, but I’ll be coming back. The grounds are lovely and the bar feels really warm. The duty manager was prompt, had an infectious smile and great customer service skills, and the reception staff were just as helpful. It was my first visit and I was blown away by the service. There’s room service with light snacks too, and they were delicious.
