A nice little extra is the drinks by the honesty box, where you can pay for what you take. Bring cash. There was plenty of milk in the fridge, plus pastries and fruit left in the room for guests. The rooms are lovely, clean and cosy.

Back home after a fabulous weekend in York! Everything's already been said in the comments, so I don't have anything to add. We'll definitely stay at The Camaraderie Guest house again later in the year. Thank you!

The Camaraderie Guest House is in a quiet residential spot, with a 15 minute stroll into the City by road or along the river. The room was just right and the bed was comfortable. Little touches made us feel welcome: the mini fridge had milk, butter, water and yogurts, plus pastries and a bowl of fruit. Ashley has written a handy local guide with lots of pubs to visit. He recommended Kawa House nearby for breakfast, and it was delicious. We didn't meet him in person, but he was never more than a 10 minute WhatsApp message away. We'd definitely return to The Camaraderie if we come back to York.

Ashley, the owner, was accommodating and helpful throughout. We stayed three nights for a dad-and-son weekend, and there's a lot of useful information for getting around: the number 7 bus goes between the station and town, with stops at the top of the road. Or take the river path from Alma Terrace, across from the bus stop. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the town centre and most visitor attractions, and Alma Terrace is signposted on the way back. We popped into The Kings Arms for a cheap pint, two cost £5.60. Room 1 had an ensuite and pretty much everything we needed, from towels, flannels, dressing gowns, slippers and toiletries to a mini fridge with tea and coffee. There was fruit, pastries, cereal bowls, cutlery and washing-up bits too. A hair dryer and vanity mirror were there for the ladies. Sunny's Cafe across the road does a great breakfast, though it's closed Sundays. There's also a hallway fridge with beer, wine and pop, a price list and an honesty box if you fancy a drink in your room. I'll be back soon.

The host was so friendly and made us feel at home. Our room was lovely, with beautiful decor and furnishings and an ensuite bathroom. There were croissants, jam, butter, bottled water, orange juice and yogurts waiting for us, a really nice touch. It's only a short taxi ride into the city, and we'll stay again next time we're in York.
