The owner brought us to our room at check-in, where he found one opened bottle of water for the two of us. He took it away, and we thought he’d bring a fresh second bottle, but he didn’t. He mentioned being 80, we said he looked good, and then he bragged about having a 45-year-old Thai wife back in Thailand. The next morning, he opened the restaurant for breakfast 20 minutes late. I was making polite conversation because he said he was flying to Thailand that day. When I asked if he was ready for the flight, he snapped, “You’re one of those people, are you? Someone who questions people? Stick to your own problems.” We got up and left. He came outside and asked us to come back for breakfast, but there was no way we were going back after that. I told him to stick it, with a swear word or two. What a terrible man. Never going back.

Parking is available at the property, and it’s a 15-minute walk to the city centre. From check-in right through breakfast and checkout, the service was brilliant. The owner went out of their way to make our stay good, keeping the rooms well stocked and catering to every need at breakfast. Checkout was relaxed too. I’d easily book here again.

The owner was incredibly friendly, and the breakfast was amazing. We really enjoyed staying here and will definitely come back. The location is great, about 20 minutes from the centre.

The owner was friendly and welcoming, and the rooms were really clean, warm and cosy. Breakfast was the best, all freshly cooked and served with great service. It’s only a 15-minute walk from the city centre. I loved my stay and would look to book here again on my next visit to York.

The room was spotless, comfortable and had everything we needed. We also got a great tip for a local pub just around the corner. Breakfast was fresh, tasty and a perfect start to the day. Arthur welcomed us kindly, helped park our car and carried my luggage into the hotel. I’d accidentally booked a large family room, but he sorted it out without any fuss. We’ve already booked again for future stays. This little gem in York is easy to recommend.
