Dalescroft Guest House

It's a clean, nicely presented guest house, with friendly staff and just a 10-minute walk into the city. A couple of small things could be better: our room was cold when we arrived just before 3, since the heating doesn't come on until 4. We also had to turn the mattress over because a couple of springs were poking through. Cereal alongside the toast would be a good breakfast addition. Otherwise, we had a good stay.

Breakfast in bed was absolutely lovely, and we'd definitely stay again. It's in a good spot outside the city, so it was quiet at night. We didn't realise the heating would be on all night. It wasn't too much of a problem, though it might be once the weather gets warmer. The showers are small, but they do the job for a quick stop.

Holmlea has become even better since my weekend here two years ago. I came back yesterday for three days and found it so tastefully refurbished. Cleanliness, peace and solitude matter to me, and this place has all three. The walk to the town centre takes me 10 minutes, with quaint little shops and cafes and lovely scenery along the way. It's cheap at half the price. I love it and might extend my stay.

Breakfast in bed was good, and the room was cute in a pleasant area, an easy 20-minute walk into town. My main gripe was the awful shower in room 5. I'd consider coming back, though I might try a Travelodge if I knew I could get a good shower.
