I loved the cat walk, and the whole place had a quirky look that still worked well. There was even a light-up scene in the room's eaves that I thought was great, and I reckon children would love it too. My room was 8 and 3/4, a generous size for a solo traveller, with a handy little desk nook. The views of York Minster were fantastic, even from the well appointed bathroom, where you could probably see the Minster from the bath or shower. Getting around was easy, with the city walls a couple of minutes away and museum gardens straight across the road. It took about 10 minutes to walk from the station. I didn't try breakfast because I was in a rush, but it looked and smelled delicious. The tea, coffee, and special biscuits in the room were good, and the tuck shop and guest fridge were a nice idea for late night snacks. Check-in was straightforward when I arrived early evening. I was away for work because I couldn't get into my usual hotel. I'd never really considered a guest house before, partly because I'd imagined a jolly landlady watching over you and making late arrivals awkward. This place changed my mind. It was comfortable and predictable for a business trip, with a bit of whimsy and plenty to explore in the evening.

The staff were kind and welcoming, communication was good, and they left a birthday banner and truffles on the bed for our anniversary trip. Breakfast was nice and arrived at our door in a basket as requested. The location is good too. The room itself was a letdown for the £199 price. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, with a very firm, springy mattress. One pillow was lumpy and hard, like clay, and the other was basically flat. The room also needed attention: dusty lamps, dated furniture, marks and scuffs on the walls, dead spiders inside the lights, dead flies on the window, a dirty TV remote, and a spider squashed into a cushion. See pictures for reference. We could hear other people's TVs and footsteps, and the creaking floorboards kept us awake. People came in around 1-2am, loud and laughing, banging things and playing music, all clearly audible. There was no blackout lining on the curtains, so after such broken sleep we were up early. I've stayed in similar rooms for £40/50, and at nearly £200 I can't help feeling this was heavily overpriced. The pillows were the worst I've ever encountered. I'm not usually one to leave a bad review because the staff were nice, and I wish I had a more positive one to write, but the rooms need work. Thanks for having us. Kind Regards, Cal.

The place was quiet and nicely laid out, and having a common room to relax in was a bonus. Breakfast was well organised, with the choice of eating in bed or in the lounge. We had it in bed, which was a great addition. Our room was clean and cozy, the staff were really nice, and it wasn't a long walk to the centre. Amazing experience. 10/10, I'd pick this over any premier inn or travel lodge.

I especially liked having the downstairs lounge as a place to unwind and eat takeaway when I didn't feel like going out. As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe here. The location was handy for both the station, an easy walk of about 10 minutes even with luggage, and the city centre, roughly 5-10 minutes depending on where you're headed. This is one of my favourite places I've stayed. The guesthouse is charming, and you can tell the details have been thought through, from simple check-in to British chocolate bars, quality teas, hot chocolate, and good bath products in the room. Each morning a breakfast basket came to my door with a tasty breakfast sandwich, yogurt and granola, and warm pastries. Don't hesitate to book this perfect spot in York!

The place feels so cozy and homelike, and it's well located near the city centre while still being quiet. My room matched what I wanted, peaceful and with a bathtub. Such a lovely way to finish my holidays. I'll stay here again if I return to York.
