The breakfasts were the highlight, with loads to choose from each morning, all freshly cooked and beautifully served. The owners were friendly and really helpful, too. It’s a lovely B&B, quiet despite being only a 10-minute walk from York centre. The rooms are pretty and have thoughtful little touches. Nothing to fault, and I’ll definitely be back!

Paul is busy in the kitchen putting together wonderful breakfasts, with hot dishes alongside local yogurt, fruit, fresh croissants, homemade butters and jams, and Irish soda bread. Fiona made us feel very welcome. The old house, which dates back to at least 1864, has been done up beautifully, and the rooms have comfortable beds, modern ensuites and plenty of plugs. Views are lovely from every room, with the River Foss opposite and a gorgeous garden behind the house. It’s on a quiet street about a 15-minute walk from the Minster, though York has plenty to distract you on the way. There’s a well-priced honour bar, plus tea and coffee in each room and a welcome glass of sherry. Everything was top notch.

We stayed in room 1 and loved the four-poster bed, which was really comfortable, and the lovely ensuite with its huge shower. The room was spotless, spacious and had everything we needed. Paul and Fiona, along with their staff, were great hosts and went out of their way to make all our food and drinks gluten-free and lactose-free. Breakfast was generous and delicious. We booked directly, so we could reserve a parking space at MonkBridge House and then explore York on foot. The centre was about a 10-minute walk away. We’re already looking forward to coming back on our next visit. Thanks, Paul and Fiona!

The garden is lovely, and having private parking behind the house was a nice bonus. Monkbridge House is beautifully decorated but still feels relaxed and comfortable. Our room and ensuite were spotless and had everything we needed, including a complimentary decanter of sherry. Paul and Fiona made us feel at home straight away, and they’re natural hosts. It’s an easy walk to York’s historic sights, shops and places to eat. Breakfast was excellent quality, with a good range of dishes made to order. We had a wonderful weekend and will definitely book again.

We stayed in what I believe was the Thompson room, and it was comfortable. The location made getting around easy, and the hosts were kind and gave us good advice. The tea was good, and breakfast was great, the best full English I’ve had at a hotel or guesthouse. Parking is included if you book direct and let them know. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in York.
