The room, number 3, was very small, and its dark decor felt claustrophobic to me. It was at the front of the pub, apparently on a main road into York, and the constant traffic noise kept us awake. I couldn’t wait to leave. The shower wasn’t very warm or powerful either. The staff were lovely, and I could see how hard they work. Breakfast and evening pub staff were pleasant and helpful, and the food was excellent. The pub was full both nights, which I can understand. Tea, coffee, biscuits, and bottled water were provided and topped up for the next day. We stayed two nights.

The Sea Bass I had for lunch a couple of weeks ago was simply perfect. Service was great, the atmosphere was nice, and all the staff were friendly and pleasant, especially the young male server with dark hair. I’ve lived locally for a long time and have visited the Plough many times over the years. Honestly, it keeps getting better. A fantastic place to eat :)

Being a short bus ride from the centre of York made this an ideal place for us. We were very pleased with our stay. The food and staff were fantastic, and I was especially impressed by the breakfast choice and quality, as well as the lovely people serving it. The rooms are a little dated, but very clean and comfortable.

Really good Friday night atmosphere, with great service and excellent meals for both of us. The beer was exceptional too, both Timothy Taylor and Rudgate. We ate at this superb pub this evening and couldn’t fault it.

The landlady is super lovely, and the food is really good, with very fast service at Sunday lunch. The portions are rather large, so arrive hungry. I’ve also been here a few times for an evening meal and the Monday quiz. Three quid gets you into the quiz, a bingo ticket, and sausage and chips! If you’re staying in York, it’s a bit of a trek from the centre.
