The Sycamore Guest House

The host was fantastic, genuinely warm, and friendly. A full English breakfast was included, which was much appreciated after a night out, and the dining room even has its own fireplace. The coffee was a real highlight. My room was smaller than I expected, but cosy, with a very comfortable bed and its own private bathroom. The city centre is a bit of a walk, so the location description felt a little misleading. Still, walking along the river at night was amazing, and I had a pleasant stay.

We had the smallest room, but for a one-night stay it was all we needed. The room was chilly at first, though the radiator and extra heater soon warmed it up. Our shower and toilet were across from the bedroom, but we had a key. It’s a lovely little place, with a clean, cosy feel and a lovely gentleman running it. Don’t expect the ritz. Breakfast was lovely, and waking up to the smell of real freshly ground coffee was a treat. The owner was so kind, and I’d stay again.

We keep coming back to The Sycamore Guest House whenever we visit York. It’s a friendly, family-run place with inviting, cosy rooms, and the breakfasts are fantastic. From the guest house, it’s a lovely walk into York. There’s safe, inexpensive parking on the road outside, at the bottom of a cul-de-sac. We can’t recommend it enough and will be back very soon.

We booked three nights but left after one, and the owner still charged us for all the nights. The room was freezing, though the owner did provide a heater when we asked. It was up in the eaves, at the top of several flights of stairs; if you’re worried about being trapped in a fire, this room isn’t for you. The owner was uncooperative, and the room wasn’t serviced after the first day. Also, half of the property shown in the front photo is actually the neighbour’s.
