Ynyscedwyn Arms

We turned up on Valentine’s night in the early evening without booking, and the landlord found us a table. We had starters and mains, and the portions were a good size. The food was lovely. The landlady was welcoming, full of character, and good for a bit of banter. A great experience.

We nearly hesitated because the place was quiet when we arrived for Thursday carvery at the ynyscedwyn arms, but the meal was amazing. The meat was plentiful and cooked just right, and there were so many tasty vegetables we could barely fit them on the plate. For dessert we chose jam sponge with plenty of custard, and the portions were generous. The two courses cost £12.50 per head. We go to lots of carveries, and this was the best we’ve had in a while, by far. We’ve booked again for Sunday. They’re currently doing carvery on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Give it a try, it’d be great to have the ynyscedwyn arms up and running in the village again.

The food was lovely, but the service felt slow. We arrived at 5.20 and ordered at 5.40. Our starters didn’t come until 6.15, even though we were the only people in the restaurant, and our mains arrived at 6.50. The men couldn’t get a mixed grill because, apparently, they were changing to the owner’s new menu. Disappointing for a first visit.

The food was perfect, and I honestly can’t fault it. I rarely give top marks, but this one earned them. We dropped in for an unplanned Friday night dinner date, and from the moment we arrived, mackenzie was attentive and clearly knew her role. When we mentioned our allergies, she checked with the kitchen straight away and they arranged alternatives for us. Rees, who served us later, was just as attentive and quick. All the staff gave us excellent service, and we never needed to ask for anything. We left in great spirits and hope to return soon with friends for another evening of good food and company.
