Hotel Port Altus

A really lovely stay, with a good location and very friendly staff.

We spent two weeks in Batumi, and this was one of the best hotels we stayed at. The man who owns it and his wife, who also makes breakfast, give the place a familiar feel that’s great for relaxing on vacation. The owner is friendly and treats you like a person, not a customer. The staff are kind and helpful too, and if you raise a problem, they sort it out straight away. The rooms are very comfortable, questions get answered, and the owner sometimes even offers help without being asked. It’s right in the old town, so it’s easy to get to all parts of Batumi by taxi or on foot.

Batumi has a huge hotel building boom underway, with modern Western-style places opening just a few minutes’ walk from the Old town. That makes me wonder why anyone would stay right in the center, with its casinos, massage parlours, noisy cars, and impatient taxi drivers. The owner also seems uninterested in how the hotel is run.

Khatuna and Leri on the staff are very good people. The rooms are spacious, but the beds are bad. The hotel is close to the seaside and the city center.
