Bao Hostel

We really enjoyed our few nights in a private room at Bao Hostel. Micha was a great host, and our room was clean and cozy. The atmosphere was really good too.

We'd booked two weeks earlier, but on the day of our stay the hostel told us they'd found a bed bug in our room. They said there were no other rooms available, that they needed to close it for cleaning for a few days, and that they'd have to cancel all reservations for it. They apologized for the late notice, said this had never happened before, and told us they'd only just heard about it. The situation and the way it was handled were unexpected, with no solution offered. Highly disappointing.

I was able to check in comfortably early in the morning after they sent all the details I needed. The hostel felt clean and homely, with a central location and the amenities a backpacker needs. There's a well-equipped communal kitchen, free coffee, comfy beds with curtains, lockers with locks, maps and useful information, books, and a lovely shared space to relax in. I'd definitely recommend it.

The bathrooms and kitchen were clean and well equipped, and the balcony was a nice place to sit and unwind. I also liked the shared leftover items, which gave the hostel a real community feel. Dorm or private room, both were comfortable and good value. It's got a cozy, old-school charm, with lots of thoughtful details. The location is right in the center for exploring, and the atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming, like the city itself. It was one of those rare places that felt like home straight away. I can't wait to come back and stay longer.
