Grand Opera Hotel

Breakfast was a letdown, served in a gloomy basement instead of on the roof terrace. The selection was small and low quality, with basic hot items like precooked eggs, rice, hot dog sausages, and poor chicken nuggets, plus some cheap cakes and pastries. The rooftop piano bar stays open until 23:00, and the sound carries. If you need an early night, ask for a first or second floor room. The hotel itself is a nice historic place in the town center, within easy walking distance of a lot of things. Rooms are large, clean, and modern in style, and the bed was very comfortable.

Breakfast was very good, and the amenities generally worked fine, but the upkeep didn't feel like four-star quality. There was mold in the shower, corroded plumbing, cracked plaster, rust by the door, and stains on the balcony glass. Gaps between the floor tiles were noticeable, and the safe wasn't attached to the wall, which raised a security concern. None of it was especially disruptive, but it was disappointing.

The restaurant and bar staff were friendly and professional, but our dealings with the rest of the staff were cold, rude, and unhelpful, even when we approached them politely. When we raised the cleaning problem, one staff member accused us of lying and said she'd cleaned properly. That wasn't true from what we saw, and we were traveling with our two-year-old. At 4 PM check-in the room was dirty, with dust and dirt on the floor and table. I asked the receptionist to arrange cleaning, but was told housekeeping had already gone home. We also asked to switch rooms and were told the hotel was full. A little later, Booking.com showed a room for sale at a higher price, so it seemed they simply didn't want to help. At checkout, they said we had lost a towel, although we had only been given two towels for a triple room. I told the receptionist about all of this. He said he'd pass it to management, but nobody got back to us or offered a solution. The stay was very disappointing and not worth the price. Clean rooms, basic courtesy, and proper service should be standard, and we didn't get them.

The only drawback, according to my friends, was that breakfast wasn't tasty. I didn't mind it much. The place is right in the city center, and my room was clean, pleasant, and cozy. I liked staying here.
