Hotel Mkudro

Stay away from this “hotel.” We arrived to find that the room we’d booked, with separate beds and a view, had been given to someone else. Instead, staff put us in the worst room we’ve ever had. The bathroom ventilation was bad, and the water was cold at times and hot at others. The TV didn’t work at all. We were there in May, and the room felt damp and cold, with a small window and a poor view.

The location is amazing, but the stay was really bad. We got a worse room than the one I booked, with nowhere to sit, unpack, or really do anything. The balcony doors wouldn’t shut properly, and I didn’t feel welcome. Payment was cash only, and I wasn’t given a receipt. You can hear everything when the neighbors are noisy.

We ended up in a basement room with a window, which they called a Deluxe room for two, so be careful about what you book. In the morning, a cleaner and someone from staff were shouting for ages, and with the thin walls there was no way to rest. I also found a black hair in the towels, and there was no water during the day. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

We’d booked months ahead, but when we arrived the owner said our room had suddenly been given to other guests and there was no space for us. He got angry when we complained, then arranged a cheaper, smaller room at another hotel. We’d also booked and paid Hotel Mkudro in advance for a driver to take us to the airport the next day. The owner sent the driver to our hotel, but at the airport we found he hadn’t been paid. He wouldn’t let us leave without paying him. I don’t blame the driver at all, since he clearly didn’t know what had happened. We called the owner, who insulted us and threatened to call the police at the airport and tell them we’d betrayed him. In the end, we had to find more money and pay the driver again. We booked through booking.com. After we got back, the owner told the site that we hadn’t shown up, so we couldn’t leave a bad review there. We’d stayed at a dozen hotels in Georgia and always had great experiences with kind hosts, so ending the holiday this way was a real shame. There are lots of fantastic hotels in Kutaisi. If I come back, I’ll keep well away from Hotel Mkudro, especially the owner.
