Hotel Royal

The rooms were comfortable and nicely furnished, and the bathroom was huge. I’d recommend this hotel!

We paid 60€ for two nights in a huge 60qm room with a king size bed, balcony, and even a fridge. The decor wasn’t especially new, but everything worked and the room was very clean. Giorgi was easy to communicate with in English, and he speaks a little German too. Check-in was smooth. The guesthouse is in a safe neighborhood near downtown Kutaisi. We enjoyed staying there, and for the price it was hard to beat in Georgia.

The room was spectacular, with a comfy bed, fridge, kettle, good Wi-Fi, smart TV, heating and air conditioning. There’s a balcony looking over the town rooftops towards the mountains, and the centre is about a five-minute walk away. The staff spoke great English and were very helpful. A couple of drawbacks: there’s no breakfast, and the cafés don’t open until 9.00. Also, the bath is meant for two people sitting, so you can’t really lie back in it, and there’s no shower.

It’s such a wildly odd place that the decor somehow becomes spectacular. The owner took a stunning old house, with patterned wooden floors and a grand staircase, then altered it with an extension and a baffling mix of new doors, tacky tiles, carpets, and the most ridiculous curtains. I can’t explain the look. Check the photos. It’s so bad it’s almost genius, and I won’t forget the experience.
